Today at church I listened to a sermon about being rooted in Christ, and it was one of those moments where God reminded me of something I already knew—but took it to a whole new level.
Have you ever had that happen?
Sometimes the Lord takes truths we’ve heard before and presses them deeper into our hearts. What was once head knowledge suddenly becomes something we truly understand.
The truth that stood out to me today was simple but powerful:
If your life is rooted in anything other than Christ, when it falls apart—you fall apart.
Money can disappear.
Jobs can change.
Relationships can struggle.
Health can fail.
Anything we build our lives on in this world can shake.
But when we are rooted in Christ, our foundation is secure because God is steady and faithful.
What It Looks Like to Be Rooted in Christ
Scripture paints a beautiful picture of a person who trusts in the Lord. They are like a tree planted by water whose roots grow deep and strong. Even when heat or drought comes, the tree continues to stand and bear fruit.
(Reference: Jeremiah 17:7–8)
The reason that tree survives difficult seasons is simple:
Its roots go deep.
When our lives are rooted deeply in Christ, we also have a source of strength that does not depend on circumstances.
Storms may come.
Difficult seasons will happen.
But we can remain steady because our roots are planted in the One who never changes.
How to Stay Rooted in Christ
Just like a healthy tree needs water and nourishment, our spiritual lives need consistent care. Here are a few ways we grow deeper roots in Christ.
1. Personal Bible Study
Spending time in God’s Word helps us know His character and truth. Personal study strengthens our faith and reminds us of what is true when life feels uncertain.
2. Sunday Morning Worship
Gathering with the church every week refocuses our hearts on God. Worship, preaching, and fellowship strengthen our faith and encourage us in ways we cannot experience alone.
(Reference: Hebrews 10:24–25)
3. Small Groups and Discipleship Relationships
The Christian life was never meant to be lived alone. Small groups and discipleship relationships help us grow, ask questions, and encourage one another as we follow Christ.
A Simple Heart Check
If your spiritual life feels weak, dry, or stagnant, it may be worth asking yourself an honest question:
How deeply rooted am I in Christ right now?
Are you spending time in His Word?
Are you connected to the body of Christ?
Are you being encouraged and challenged in your faith?
The deeper our roots grow in Christ, the stronger our lives become.
And when the storms of life come—and they will—we will stand firm, not because we are strong, but because our roots are planted in the One who is faithful and unchanging.
